Time Administration

Advantage: You can manage your own time.

You don’t have to work 9 to 5 or any other regular hours if you freelance. You have the option of attending an afternoon yoga session or surfing in the morning before work. You select when you want to work.

Time management may be tough, if not downright overwhelming.

When you don’t have defined hours, it’s easy to fall off track and get to the end of the month to pay expenses and discover you needed to work more. Alternatively, you’re juggling several clients and don’t know how to balance when to complete what job, or you’ve taken on too much.

Solution: Make a timetable for yourself.

Determine your most productive hour and set aside that time for work. I find that I am most productive in the morning and again between the hours of 2 and 6 p.m. On days when I know I’ll have a lot of work, I make sure I’m prepared to work hard. If I want to do something that takes up that time, I don’t have to be rigorous about it, but I do have to make up that time someplace. I know what my monthly financial objectives are, so I make sure I have enough work and time to fulfill them. So, if I don’t meet my predetermined project/hour rate one week because I’m taking a day off, I’d best make it up the next week to fulfill my monthly target. And I try to attend that afternoon yoga session whenever I can because it’s vital to be appreciative for the flexibility that allows you to stay in balance.

Working from home

Advantage: You can work from anywhere.

I’ve spent the last year and a half as a “digital nomad,” which means I don’t have a fixed address and work while traveling. Freelancing allows you to be location independent and work from anywhere. You may do a program like Remote Year, Wifi Tribe, or Unsettled, like I did. If that’s not your thing, skipping the drive to work from home or the occasional café is a luxury in and of itself.

The difficulty is that it may be lonely.

I felt really lonely when I concluded Remote Year since I no longer had a community with whom I was traveling while working. When you’re used to making friends at work and like socializing as much as I do, you can miss the workplace.

Find a coworking space as a solution.

There are other freelancers or solopreneurs out there eager to meet new individuals just like you! Joining a coworking space is a terrific way to meet new people, discover interesting events, and even become more productive. If you’re on the go, I recommend looking at The League of Extraordinary Coworking Locations or Croissant for location independent alternatives. If you’re not on the move, you can pick a spot you like in your area, or check out WeWork, one of the largest coworking firms with spaces all over the world.

Make Yourself the Boss

Advantage: You may be your own employer and pick your own work.

You are no longer assigned to problematic clients or tasks that you despise. You are in command!

It can be tough to get employment, and you may encounter demanding clientele.

You may find yourself taking on unfashionable projects or dealing with customers who make you grimace, especially in the beginning. Worse, you may be having difficulty finding job to make ends meet.

Solution: Continue to act.

You may discover that you spend half of your time trying to get job, and that is a part of it. This is why services like Fiverr are so beneficial since you’ve placed yourself in a position where people are seeking for you! However, don’t stop there. Inform former employers, members of your professional network, and friends that you are seeking for freelancing work. I’ve found it really advantageous to have regular clients with whom I have more long-term work to supplement my monthly goal, and then if I need to generate more money that month for whatever reason, I go on a pitching and hustling binge. And it’s okay to take on less fascinating job since, in my experience, work breeds more work. Once you’ve established a portfolio and a reputation, begin cold-calling firms you respect and wish to collaborate with. Send examples and explain why you want to collaborate with them.

Take Advantage of It

It’s all up to you.

You don’t have to answer to anyone, and you may make anything up on your own terms.

The choice is entirely yours.

I went to a few creative pals for assistance, and my customer was pleased that I could go the additional mile. In exchange, I am always available to answer writing problems or provide immediate assistance from my personal network since we all need to encourage one another.

The advantages of the freelancing lifestyle are sometimes accompanied with drawbacks. But you’re inventive! You’re a doer, so answers and approaches to these problems are never far away. You may simply transform your freelancing dream into a reality if you use your network, experience, and internal resources.
