A History of Typography — We’ll talk about the evolution of written language and typography as we know it today. Before you start developing anything of your own, I feel it is critical to understand your roots!
The Anatomy of a Letter – What is type? What are all the moving pieces in custom lettering, and why are they important?
Letters in History — We’ll talk about how ornamental writing came to be and why it’s so significant in branding and design.
Tools of the Trade — What do you need to get started with hand lettering? We’ll talk about it, and I’ll provide you links to where you can buy everything!
Learning the Classics — This is one of the most significant parts of the lesson.
It teaches your body to think in letterforms!
Changing Letters by Hand or Computer — How can we put our tools to use to start producing unique type? We’ll also talk about everyone’s favorite topic: LIGATURES!
Scripts and How to Use Them – What is the origin of script style? What are your plans for it? How can you improve it? We’ll cover everything!
Understanding Type Systems — There are so many great styles in lettering; we’ll learn how to combine them together to enhance your work.
Rhythm, spacing, and context — One of the most appealing aspects of letters is how expressive it can be. We’ll discuss how to get the most out of it!
Logo Design – How do logos effect everyday life? How can you get a piece of that?!
Custom Lettering for Branding — We’ll go through the rules of custom lettering for branding. What is the limit? What isn’t going far enough?
