I am currently working on my next book, tentatively titled The Life of Practice: Taking Evolution Personally, and in the book I talk about four essential goals of practice and human life. They are as follows: we need to wake up, grow up, clean up, and show up. None of these are sufficient unto themselves, but all of them are absolutely necessary for us to become the kind of human beings we need to be to address the conditions and issues that confront us in our world of today and tomorrow.
The first goal, waking up, is about realizing who and what we truly are at our deepest and most fundamental ground of being. I believe my dear friend and colleague, best-selling author Jonathan Robinson, has created some tremendous guided meditations that will vastly speed up the process of our waking up. These are supported and contextualized by iAwake entrainment tracks. I think you will love these tracks as much as I do.
I’ve been meditating using this technology virtually on a daily basis for some 14 years now, and I have learned and experienced almost everything that Jonathan guides us through in these meditations. Although I consider myself a fairly advanced meditator at this point, I found these guided meditations to be extremely helpful. It is always good to stress the fundamentals in whatever skill you are developing, whether it’s playing tennis, learning to play an instrument, or learning a new language. The same can definitely be said about meditation.
So, whether you are just starting the practice of meditation or you are an intermediate or advanced meditator, I think you will find these guided meditations of Jonathan’s very helpful in doing just what they claim—providing us with “shortcuts to awakening.”
All practice is good, but skillful practice is better. Why should we waste time reinventing the wheel when we don’t have to? Jonathan told me he created these tracks to make the awakening process easier for himself. I have also found they are a good preparation for doing a longer meditation using other iAwake tracks, or one can use other tracks in the beginning and finish up with one of Jonathan’s shortcuts. I say this because in my personal practice, I tend to do longer meditations where I regularly mix and match iAwake tracks.
Shortcuts to Awakening can assist you in:
- Knowing your true nature as pure awareness
- Experiencing deep peace and love
- Letting go of negative thoughts
- Letting go of negative stories about yourself, others, and the world
- Disidentifying with physical and emotional pain
- Overcoming deep-seated fears, including the fear of death
- Consciously connecting with your Higher Power
- Speeding up the process of awakening
I feel the more you practice with these tracks, the more you will integrate the skills learned during the tracks over time. Not only do we need to wake up but we need to stay awake. These are not just to be used once, but as ongoing meditative tools.
The four tracks included in Shortcuts to Awakening are:
- Pure Awareness
- Stillpoint
- Beyond Story into Being
- Sudden Awakening
A bonus track of Pure Awareness with Silence is included as a digital download.
So God bless you all, and let’s keep working together to wake up, clean up, grow up, and show up. The world needs you and you matter.
With great love and respect,
John and the iAwake Team
