Course Description
The activity will address osteopathic clinicians’, as well as other practicing clinicians’, needs to improve knowledge, competence and/or performance for the treatment of Systemic Disorders and Physiological Functions by leveraging the principles of osteopathic medicine.Â
Effective treatment varies for patients. This webinar will offer participants the opportunity to learn the neuroanatomic basis for how OMT affects physiologic functions, and meets of needs of interested physicians who want to increase their knowledge in this area of medical practice, including assessment of existing and emerging therapies, as they develop customized treatment plans via interactive case scenarios.
Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
- Identify the components that contribute to achieving presence and understand their own strengths and challenges in developing this skill.
- Understand the role presence plays in optimizing their own mental and physical health and in increasing the efficacy of their patient interactions and outcomes.
- Improve their palpatory and perceptual skills that can be used in any osteopathic manipulative treatment
Target Audience
This activity is for osteopathic and medical physicians (DO/MD), Medical Students (DO/MD), and International Osteopaths.
Prerequisites
No prerequisites required.
Rachel Brooks, MD, FCA is a graduate of University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Brooks completed post-graduate work in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Michigan Hospitals, Integrated Residency Program. She holds certifications as Diplomate, American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, May 1983 and Diplomate, National Board of Medical Examiners, July 1980. She is currently practicing physical medicine and rehabilitation, specializing in osteopathic manipulative medicine privately in Portland Oregan. Dr. Brooks is the editor of two books of Rollin Becker, DO’s work: “Life in Motion” and “The Stillness of Life” and assisted Anne L Wales, DO in the editing of WG Sutherland’s “Teachings in the Science of Osteopathy.” She is a member of the American Academy of Osteopathy and the Osteopathic Cranial Academy, and a Fellow of the Osteopathic Cranial Academy, 2017.
