Dr. Michael Brown and Dr. Logan Banks will offer a live webcast on international medicine, specifically practicing medicine in Burundi. Dr. Brown will moderate a question-and-answer session with Dr. Banks. Dr. Banks will address Dr. Brown’s questions about his experiences practicing medicine in Burundi.

Identify the most significant challenges that someone may experience when practicing international medicine.
Describe any additional training that may be necessary to practice international medicine in a country such as Burundi.
Describe the health dangers that a person may face while practicing international medicine in a third-world country such as Burundi.
Describe what it was like to be the first Osteopathic Physician in Burundi.
Dr. Michael Brown is a Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine graduate. At Truman Medical Centers, he finished his residency in Family and Community Medicine. He currently practices family medicine at Meritas Health in North Kansas City. Dr. Brown has served on the boards of the American Osteopathic Association and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and he is now President-Elect of the MAOPS. He and his wife have six children and live in Smithville, Missouri.

Logan Banks, DO, works as a full-time medical missionary in Burundi, East Africa. He is a professor of Family Medicine and Obstetrics at Hope Africa University and the Director of Medical Education at Kibuye Hope Facility, the university’s rural teaching hospital. In addition, he is an adjunct faculty member at Cox Family Medicine Residency in Springfield, Missouri. Dr. Banks attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine for medical school and then completed his residency at Cox Family Medical Residency in Springfield, Missouri, followed by a fellowship in international family medicine. Dr. Banks is deeply committed to education and the development of the next generation of physicians and leaders, particularly in Africa.
