After over 40 years as a scholar, herb merchant and picker, ethnobotanist, physician, teacher, and writer, he possessed unrivaled plant knowledge.
He believed in whole plant remedies, encouraged the use and study of local botanicals, and encouraged all of his pupils to become skilled herbalists capable of understanding, recognizing, creating, and applying their own medicines.
Michael enjoyed sharing his knowledge and seeing people excited about applying what they had learned from him.
These classes represent the climax of his life?s labor. ?
They are video and audio recordings of his final Southwest School of Botanical Medicine seminar, which he presented in 2006.
Michael Moore was the author of many classic works on the herbal plants of the West and Southwest, including Medicinal Plants of the Desert and Canyon West (MNMP), a companion guide to Medicinal Plants of the Mountain West, as well as a number of clinical herb manuals, including Herbal Materia Medica, which is now in its fifth edition.
Michael Moore founded and directed the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine in Bisbee, Arizona, and launched his first herb store in Encino, California, in 1974, which is now Herbs Etc. in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
