DescriptionWe are seeing a spike in cases of neck and shoulder pain as the number of people who use computers and mobile phones increases. Managing musculoskeletal pain requires the ability to accurately assess movement-related limitations in these patients/clients. Mechanisms of postural control, myofascial imbalances, and their role in pain syndromes will be discussed. We’ll also talk about some of the methods available for diagnosing and fixing these problems.

Sue DuPont is an orthopedic and sports medicine specialist with over 30 years of experience caring for patients and athletes of all ages and skill levels. Her extensive education and credentials include a Master of Science, a Master of Business Administration, a Physical Therapist, and an Athletic Trainer Certification. She has a master’s degree in biology with a focus on biomechanics, a post-degree bachelor’s in physical therapy, and a master’s degree in healthcare administration. Her undergraduate degree is in exercise science/athletic training. Ms. DuPont was given a year-long fellowship at the U.S. Olympic Training Center and served as a member of the Medical Staff for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. She has a wide range of experience with professional and Olympic-level athletes, from tennis pros to ice skaters in the World Cup. Ms. DuPont conducted research and established a Clinical Plyometrics protocol while employed with the U.S.O.C. Biomechanics Division, and she presented the results of her work at the APTA National Conference.
Ms. DuPont is an experienced educator, and she has conducted seminars on healthy aging and wellness for the elderly population. She has been an ACE-certified fitness instructor for over 20 years, during which time she has taught several classes including Pilates, kickboxing, and others. Ms. DuPont is an expert on the spine, aging, balance, and fitness who has conducted substantial study in these areas. Manual therapy, taping/strapping, active stabilization, and soft tissue release are just some of the cutting-edge clinical techniques she employs in her daily practice to facilitate more efficient and effective motion. Ms. DuPont is currently a national lecturer for professional development programs. When she is in Florida, she works as a physical therapist and wellness coach for clients and also serves on the Advisory Board for the PTA program at Southwest Florida State College.
