Brief Synopsis:
Would you want to learn how Thomas Leonard would treat 21 different and sometimes difficult clients? Why would he treat them that way? His overall – and extremely detailed – approach to coaching in real-world situations? You’ve arrived to the correct location…
Dear Mr. Coach,
My name is Andrea J. Lee, and I recall how difficult it was to generate the Coaching Critiques while working as General Manager of CoachVille.com for Thomas Leonard from 2001 to 2003.
The project, although being well defined and totally committed to, just could not get off the ground until the technology was resolved. Thomas, you see, had three very crucial things in mind for this project:
It should be genuine coaching rather than coaching with ‘fake’ customers. This was easier said than done, because many customers, no matter how kind they were, were not interested in exposing themselves and their flaws in front of thousands of coaches.
The criticisms should be completed as needed. He wanted to push the stop button as soon as the coach or customer said something and instantly answer what he heard. There were to be no concessions, no taking notes and afterwards documenting everything.
He wanted there to be many, many, many of these evaluations, so numerous that they would become a living encyclopedia of coaching demos – a global coaching network – that would live on and be contributed to.
With Thomas’ death, the project was cut short, and we have more cause than ever to be glad that he pursued it with such zeal.
Thomas Leonard did many things, but his direct coaching is nowhere else on record – the coaching critiques are all that remains.
He, too, was shocked by how popular the Coaching Critiques became. His concern that coaches would be intimidated and refuse to participate was unfounded. Not only did a large number of volunteers volunteer, but the criticisms themselves became an important element of coach training.
Some of the original critiques required sound changes over time, while others were shortened. After much sorting, listening, selecting, and editing, I’m delighted and relieved to announce that this collection of a full 21 original coaching critiques, in the highest possible sound quality, along with their full transcripts, is now available for public consumption in an updated format for easy referencing.
All 21 Criticisms Included are 21 updated CDs and MP3s, as well as a master set of minute-by-minute transcripts.
Being able to hear Thomas genuinely coaching himself…
This is something that not enough people have had the opportunity to do.
After all, he’s known as the “Father of Modern Coaching” – how did his coaching sound?
This compilation of Thomas’ pure teaching energy, I hope, will serve as a Rock of Gibraltar for a whole new generation of coaches. For experienced coaches, you will want to possess a copy of the collection for the inspiration it will bring.
The coaching on these 21 CDs or MP3s is light, sharp, patient, edgy, and above all…
energizing and efficient
Though just 21 complete recordings remain, they are a long cry from the hundreds Thomas hoped to produce. Any research would benefit from a diverse set of coaching scenarios, life concerns, coaching methods, and client personalities.
And you can clearly hear Thomas’ excitement when he hits stop on the client-coach demo tape to input remarks since he was so enthusiastic about the technology becoming available to enable just-in-time criticism.
I hope you like it as a present to yourself. Almost as much as I’ve loved assisting in the collection’s availability!
The 21 Coaching Critiques Collection is now available in print and includes the following items:
Full Transcripts: Paperback bound, 21 minute-by-minute transcripts comprising over 400 pages, including call-out boxes.
Companion Audio Kit with 21 CDs:
Thomas Leonard and a few guest critics led and organized 21 original critiques.
As I hope you’ll see soon, the collection includes a wide range of subjects and ideas, each in its own unique module.
What have you taken away from Thomas Leonard’s actual, personal, and legendary coaching, and how will this influence your confidence to coach at your own best?
